I bang on the walls of my mind,
From my cage, holding safety inside.
Here, I yell out with all my might,
“I want out!”
I can no longer stand this land,
Where the darkness is my only friend.
I feel trapped in a world that is not mine.
So, again, I scream,
“I want out!”
A lunatic echoes inside my head,
Invoking an image of a way out:
“Hope’s thin blade is your silver key,
Which will release you from despair,
And let you escape life’s nightmare.”
Holding back tears, I loudly plead,
“I want out!”
In desperation, I follow delusion’s instructions,
Making a straight path down the midline.
I go deep until the color of freedom flows.
Then, as the crimson comes,
I find my release.
I am out.
